Safe Environment Training
What is a Safe Environment?
It is our duty and obligation to create an environment that is safe for all, especially children and
vulnerable adults. In order to foster an atmosphere free from abuse, certain policies are mandated
by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the Diocese of Oakland.
What is the Required Training?
Safe Environment training is done through Virtus. This can be completed online or in person.
Both are free to all volunteers, however the online modules may be faster and can be completed
on your own schedule, and therefore are recommended.
Who Must Complete the Training?
All liturgical volunteers of St. Leander, including choir members, extraordinary ministers of
Holy Communion, greeters, lectors, musicians, pastoral ministers of care, sacristans, ushers, etc.
How Do I Take the Online Training?
Available in either English or Spanish. All who opt to take the online modules may do so by
following the instructions below:
- Go to www.virtusonline.org
- If this is your first time registering, click “First-Time Registrant,” or if you are returning,
simply log in with your User ID and Password. - Follow the prompts.
- Complete both the “Protecting God’s Children 4.0” and “Vulnerable Adults Training
2.0” modules. - Once completed, please inform Raymond at liturgy@stleanderchurch.org

When Can I Take the In-Person Training?
The in-person training will include all topics covered in the online modules. There are two
options to attend:
ENGLISH: Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 10 am in the parish office.
SPANISH: Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10 am in the parish office.
Is This Mandatory?
YES. It is mandatory for all volunteers to complete these trainings once every three years. For
any questions, please contact Raymond at liturgy@stleanderchurch.org, or call the parish office to leave a message for him.
What happens if I refuse to complete this training?
If you are having trouble, please reach out to Raymond at liturgy@stleanderchurch.org. We will work with you to make sure you get in compliance with this diocesan policy. If you simply refuse to complete the training without making any effort, you will be removed form active ministry until you complete it.

¿Qué es un Ambiente Seguro?
Es nuestro deber y obligación crear un entorno seguro para todos, especialmente para los niños y adultos vulnerables. Para fomentar un ambiente libre de abuso, ciertas políticas son obligatorias según la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos (USCCB) y la Diócesis de Oakland.

¿Quién Debe Completar la Capacitación?
Todos los voluntarios litúrgicos de San Leandro, incluyendo miembros del coro, ministros extraordinarios de la Sagrada Comunión, ujieres, lectores, músicos, ministros de cuidado pastoral, sacristanes, etc.
¿Cómo Tomo el Entrenamiento en Línea?

- Si es tu primera vez, haz clic en “First-Time Registrant.” Si ya tienes cuenta, inicia sesión con tu usuario y contraseña.
- Sigue las instrucciones en pantalla.
- Completa ambos módulos: “Protecting God’s Children 4.0” y “Vulnerable Adults Training 2.0.”

¿Cuándo Puedo Asistir al Entrenamiento Presencial?
El entrenamiento en persona cubre todos los temas incluidos en los módulos en línea. Hay dos opciones:
EN INGLÉS: Sábado, 12 de julio de 2025, a las 10 a.m. en la oficina parroquial.
EN ESPAÑOL: Sábado, 26 de julio de 2025, a las 10 a.m. en la oficina parroquial.
¿Es Obligatorio?
SÍ. Es obligatorio para todos los voluntarios completar esta capacitación una vez cada tres años. Si tienes preguntas, comunícate con Raymond al correo liturgy@stleanderchurch.org, o llama a la oficina parroquial para dejarle un mensaje.
¿Qué pasa si me niego a completar la capacitación?
Si tienes dificultades, comunícate con Raymond y trabajaremos contigo para que cumplas con esta política diocesana. Si simplemente te niegas a completarla sin hacer ningún esfuerzo, serás removido del ministerio activo hasta que completes la capacitación.
