Anointing of the Sick
“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church
The Anointing of the Sick, along with Reconciliation, is one of the two sacraments of healing. The anointing of the Sick is the Sacrament by which Jesus, through the anointing and prayers of the priest, gives health and strength to a person who is seriously ill.
Holy Mass, including Anointing of the Sick, is offered on First Saturdays at 8:00 a.m.
To request anointing of the sick by appointment before surgery, when sick or hospitalized, please contact the Parish Office at (510) 895-5631.
