First Communion

“For as often as we eat this bread and drink the cup, we proclaim the death of the Lord. If we proclaim the Lord’s death, we proclaim the forgiveness of sins. If, as often as his blood is poured out, it is poured for the forgiveness of sins, I should always receive it, so that it may always forgive my sins. Because I always sin, I should always have a remedy.”

Catechism of the Catholic Church

A joyful step in your journey of faith!

At St. Leander’s, we are honored to walk with you and your family as your child prepares to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time. First Holy Communion is a beautiful and sacred moment—a celebration of love, grace, and belonging in the Body of Christ.

✨ What is First Communion?

First Communion is one of the most important milestones in a Catholic’s life. It is the first time a person receives the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Through this sacrament, we are united more deeply with Jesus and with our Church community.

For children, it’s a moment of wonder and joy. For adults, it’s a reminder of the deep love God has for us and the gift of His presence in our lives.

🕊 Why It Matters

The Eucharist is more than a symbol—it is Jesus Himself, given to us in love. When we receive Holy Communion:

  • We are strengthened in our faith.
  • We are forgiven and renewed.
  • We are drawn closer to God and one another.

As the Church teaches, “The Body of Christ we receive in Holy Communion is ‘given up for us,’ and the Blood we drink ‘shed for the many for the forgiveness of sins.’”

📅 Preparing for the Sacrament

Our parish offers a warm and welcoming preparation program for children and their families. Through classes, prayer, and special events, we help children understand the meaning of the Eucharist and grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, godparent, or a child preparing for this special day—you are not alone. We are here to support you every step of the way.
