Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
– Matthew 28:19
About the Ministry
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process through which interested adults and older children are gradually introduced to the Roman Catholic faith and way of life. It is a liturgical rite, usually celebrated on some annual date or dates, marking the beginning of the catechumenate proper, as the candidates express and the Church accepts their intention to respond to God’s call to follow the way of Christ.
Classes meet on Saturday mornings from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., beginning late September.
RCIA is a ministry to assist catechumens in their spiritual journey and conversion process through education, formation, and resources to live up to the expectations of full implementation of the Rite. The process would call forth the gifts and effort of many members of the entire community so much so that the process would have an effect on the community as well as the individuals seeking initiation. Join the team in sharing your faith and church teachings with the adults who are seeking to become members of our church or receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Volunteers are needed in the Adult Program to assist those who inquire about and interested in becoming a Catholic through the RCIA process. These sessions include baptized Catholics who have not received their First Communion, Confirmation or both Sacraments, those interested in learning more about their Catholic faith, or returning to their Catholic faith. We work in a team of adults who share our faith and knowledge with them, pray with them, and guide them to the completion and reception of the Sacraments. To do the very best job possible we need more team members.
Sponsors are also needed to walk the journey with those adults preparing for the Sacraments. Yes,
being a team member or Sponsor does require a serious commitment, but the rewards are
gratifying. Imagine what it feels like to witness the adults we have worked with being Baptized,
Confirmed, and receive their First Communion, or are received into the Catholic Church from another denomination. The blessings we receive are many, but the blessing will increase when the team consists of more working hands and minds. We meet on Wednesday evenings 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Suggested Attributes for Volunteers
Confirmed and practicing Catholics willing to share with someone his/her faith, time, emotional and spiritual support. Or providing with baked goods, fruit, and something to drink would be very helpful.
